started off pretty poorly. I'm going through the runsheets
to see what happened. Don't really want to re-live it,
however. Swallowed another exhaust valve at the Texas Mile.
This was a commercial shortblock (.030" over 302) with the
good heads and stuff. Guess the valve clearance wasn't
sufficient. I had built another engine for Martha's Deuce …
almost had it in the car, too. Out it came, swap the good
cam and intake and into the race car.
Speed Week was a lot of fun. Aaryn did 166. Annie did 163.
Scott was next up and the car was in line at pre-stage when
racing quit for the day. Fabian's rear-engine roadster was
behind us in line. That night, it rained. End of the
story. Got some great pictures of cars in water, though.
